Tunisia is role model for countries undergoing revolutions, says Romano Prodi
TUNIS (TAP) – “Tunisia is a role model for countries undergoing revolutions,” said on Monday Romano Prodi, Italy’s former Prime Minister who is currently serving as United Nations Special Envoy for the Sahel.
Visiting Romano Prodi stressed at the end of his meeting with Interim Prime Minister Ali Larayedh the need to develop foreign co-operation in order to attract foreign investments and promote Tunisian tourism.
Mr. Prodi told the press that his meeting with the PM focused on the situation in the the African Sahel region which stretches from the Atlantic to the Red Sea (Senegal and Sudan).
“We reviewed the risks and problems the region of the Sahel is facing as well as the possibilities of restoring peace in the region through the organisation of elections, the intervention of UN peace-keeping forces and the implementation of an economic strategy to achieve development in the region,” he added.
He said it is difficult to counter terrorism when youth lack options.
President Marzouki confers with UN Special Envoy Romano Prodi
CARTHAGE (TAP) – United Nations Special Envoy for the Sahel Romano Prodi spoke on Monday, during a meeting in Carthage with caretaker President of the Republic Moncef Marzouki, the role that Tunisia could play in the achievement of stability in the region, which faces great security challenges.
The talk has focused on co-operation between Tunisia and the United Nations in favour of peace in Mali and on the need for the international community to help this country overcome the crisis through the development of its capacities to fight against poverty and the issues of development, reads a Presidency statement.
